  • Brian Kappra and Evantine Design transform the elegant Rittenhouse Hotel with dazzling décor of glitter silver and blue. The room was drop dead gorgeous as only Evantine Design can do.
  • Tickets to the BHI’s Black Tie Gala were $400 a person, but that didn't prevent the charitable event from being sold out. For folks on a budget and of a certain age, usually under 45, there is the Young Friends tickets for $100 per person which includes admission to a cocktail reception and silent auction at 9PM, followed by dessert and dancing in the main ballroom. The older guests tend to leave the party around 10PM or so, and it doesn't seem crowded.
  • I remember my first "Give The Shirt Off Your Back!" in 2008, which was co-chaired by Rema Giordano, of The Rittenhouse, and Brian Kappra, Evantine Design. Having just started covering what seemed to be a very intimating gala that I had only imagined before in movies or on the Society pages, Rema was very gracious in greeting me (and all her guests). She told me what to expect, and set up a few shots for me too. Sadly she passed away this past July of cancer. On Friday night her family gathered at the gala to in her name, where she was honored in the Gala book and a lovely tribute was done by Shelly Schwartz.". L-R Rosemary Hennelly, Rita McAnally, Rome Marinelli and JoAnne Chadwick.
  • By far one of the most anticipated gala's in Philadelphia is the The Breast Health International's annual event "Give the Shirt Off Your Back!" When I first attended this event 2 years ago I didn't know what to expect, I thought maybe people would be donating their shirts to auction off or something like that low key like that. I couldn't have been more wrong, it's one of the most glamorous nights in Philadelphia. All of Philadelphia Society arrives at the Rittenhouse Hotel in their most beautiful gowns, the men in black tie with the shine on their shoes. Co Chair Joan Spain emerges from her car for the 16th Annual event last Friday night.
  • Barrie Essner, Paul Coleman, Jamie Apody and Kathleen Papa. Paul asked Jamie for her hand in marriage last March. They met last year at the Continental Midtown when they were both out with friends. Look for photos of their wedding right here on my blog next July, cause she said I come stop by and shoot the nuptials. I secretly would love to be a wedding photographer, but really can't handle that stress. So I'm glad to bring these special moments to right here.
  • Brad Waxman, Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager of Southern Wine & Spirits of PA and Sharon Phillips Waxman. I've been a big fan of Sharon's for years after I attended my first Phasion Fest a decade ago, but I had never met her til last year. Just recently we discovered that her BFF is my cousin Diane Libertella. "We're practically family now" she tells me.
  • Tim Pestell and Nora Homsi make a colorful duo at the gala.
  • The belle of the ball co-chair Renee Freeman at the center of it all. “I co-chaired BHI’s first gala and it was the fashion event of the season! I am thrilled to be chairing the event again,” says Renee Freeman.
  • Kristen Foote, Alan Domb and Lauren O'Dorisio in Black Tie. Black Tie is a definition of dress code. Although it may vary, in simplest terms men wear a black bow tie and tuxedo, women wear a formal dress.

  • Kristen Ferraro with the tuxedo clad Jay Jay, Melissa Schwartz, Tim M and Amel Hammad. Amel was excited to meet Steve Ward and by the end of the night obtained the coveted picture with him.
  • The Bad Dog Ball also doubles as the “after-party with attitude” for the more formal Good Dog Gala and dancing bad, in a good way, was encouraged.
